The IRS collected a total of $4.11 trillion in taxes last year. Of that, California contributed almost 15%, with Texas and New York together contributing around 15.6%. That means three states make up almost a third of the IRS's overall tax revenue. In addition to California, Texas, and New York, 11 other states contributed over $100 billion in tax revenue (Washington, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, New Jersey, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Illinois, Georgia, and Florida).
